چکیده

In this paper, we propose a spectrally efficient frequencydomain channel estimation scheme suitable for training sequence inserted single-carrier (TS-SC) block transmission using frequency-domain equalization (FDE). The proposed scheme performs the channel estimation in two steps and allows the use of shorter TS (but, longer than the channel length) than the conventional channel estimation schemes. In the first step, the received TS having cyclic property is constructed for performing frequency-domain channel estimation and the improved channel estimate is obtained by using simple averaging of noisy channel estimates. In the second step, the maximum likelihood channel estimation is carried out iteratively by using both the TS and the estimated symbol sequence obtained in the first step. It is shown by computer simulation that the proposed 2step frequency-domain iterative channel estimation scheme achieves a bit error rate (BER) performance close to perfect channel estimation even in a relatively fast fading environment. key words: single-carrier, frequency-domain equalization, channel estimation, training sequence

Single-Carrier Frequency-Domain Equalization for Orthogonal STBC over Frequency-Selective MIMO-PLC channels

In this paper we propose a new space diversity scheme for broadband PLC systems using orthogonal space-time block coding (OSTBC) transmission combined with single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE). To apply this diversity technique to PLC channels, we first propose a new technique for combining SC-FDE with OSTBCs applicable to all dispersive multipath channels impaired by impulsive...

OFDM Multi-User Communication Over Time-Variant Channels

Wireless broadband communications for users moving at vehicular speed is a cornerstone of future fourth generation (4G) mobile communication systems. We investigate a multi-carrier (MC) code division multiple access (CDMA) system which is based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). A spreading sequence is used in the frequency domain in order to distinguish individual users and ...

Frequency-Domain Block Signal Detection with QRM-MLD for Training Sequence-Aided Single-Carrier Transmission

A frequency-domain block signal detection (FDBD) using QR decomposition with M-algorithm maximum likelihood detection (QRM-MLD) can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of the cyclic prefix inserted single-carrier (CP-SC) block transmission in a frequency-selective fading channel. However, the use of a fairly large number of the surviving paths is required in the M-algorit...

Advances in single carrier block modulation with frequency domain processing

This special issue focuses on single carrier block modulation (SC-BM) with frequency domain processing. This class of modulation and multiple access schemes complements the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and its variations. For example, LTE (the long term evolution of the 3GPP standard), and LTE-Advanced, employ OFDMA in the downlink (base stations to mobiles) and SC-FDMA...

Carrier frequency offset estimation method for 2 × 1 MISO TDS-OFDM systems

In time-domain synchronous (TDS)-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, a pseudo noise (PN) sequence is inserted instead of the cyclic prefix. The PN sequence is used not only as a guard interval but also as a training sequence for channel estimation and synchronization in the time domain. Recently, research studies on 2 × 1 multi input-single output (MISO) TDS-OFDM systems ...
